The Kansas City Royals got a tough win over the New York Yankees yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Royals picking up the W 4 to 3. Royals pitcher Jamey Wright (4.33 ERA) got the win, while Damaso Marte (9.95 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Robinson Tejeda went 5 innings for the Royals, allowed 4 hits, 2 home runs and 3 earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Royals was Roman Colon (4.89). The Yankees’s starter Joba Chamberlain went 3.2 innings, allowed 7 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Alfredo Aceves (3.64), Jonathan Albaladejo (4.91), Sergio Mitre (6.79), Phil Hughes (2.95), and Mariano Rivera (1.79) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Wright’s record goes to 3-5, while Marte is at 1-3. Joakim Soria earned the save for the Royals, bringing his saves up to 30.
In addition to the 4 runs, the Royals scored 11 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Royals, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Tug Hulett had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Yankees managed 3 runs, 5 hits and no errors.

The win puts the Royals at a record of 65-94, (20.5 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Yankees to 102-57, still leading their division.
