The Oakland Athletics faced the the New York Yankees yesterday at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum with the Athletics winning 3 to 0. Wow! What a nail biter! This was a pitchers duel that Brett Tomko and A.J. Burnett will never forget! Fans with Athletics tickets saw two fantastic pitchers do battle. Athletics pitcher Brett Tomko (4.21 ERA) got the win, while A.J. Burnett (3.69 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Brett Tomko went 5 innings for the Athletics, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with one walk and one strikeout. Also pitching for the Athletics was Craig Breslow (4.06), and Brad Ziegler (2.68). The Yankees’s starter A.J. Burnett went 8 innings, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. With the win, Tomko’s record goes to 2-2, while Burnett falls to 10-6. Andrew Bailey earned the save for the Athletics, bringing his saves up to 18.
In addition to the 3 runs, the Athletics managed 6 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Athletics, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Derek Jeter had the most hits for the Yankees (3), followed by Ramiro Pena (1). The Yankees managed no runs, 7 hits and no errors.
