Blue Jays Lose Close One To Yankees

The New York Yankees got a tough win over the Toronto Blue Jays yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Yankees picking up the W 7 to 5. Yankees pitcher David Robertson (3.38 ERA) got the win, while Jesse Carlson (5.40 ERA) took the loss for the Blue Jays. Joba Chamberlain went 6 innings for the Yankees, allowed 5 hits, one home run and 4 earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Yankees was Brian Bruney (5.32), and Phil Coke (4.91). The Blue Jays’s starter Scott Richmond went 6 innings, allowed 8 hits, no home runs and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts. Jeremy Accardo (2.50), and Josh Roenicke (3.94) also pitched for the Blue Jays. With the win, Robertson’s record goes to 2-1, while Carlson is at 1-5. Mariano Rivera earned the save for the Yankees, bringing his saves up to 33.

In addition to the 7 runs, the Yankees scored 14 hits and committed no errors. Johnny Damon and Derek Jeter tied for most hits for the Yankees with 3 hits, followed by Robinson Cano with 2 hits. Alex Rodriguez had a tough day at the plate, leaving 6 runners on base. The Blue Jays didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Blue Jays managed 5 runs, 8 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Paul Nauert, Joe West, Ed Rapuano and Paul Schrieber. There were 46,523 Yankees ticket holders in attendance at New Yankee Stadium.

The win puts the Yankees at a record of 70-43, still leading their division, while the loss brings the Blue Jays to 54-58, (15.5 games behind first place in the division).
