The Detroit Tigers got a tough win over the New York Yankees yesterday at Comerica Park with the Tigers victorious 5 to 4. It was a huge win that rooters with Tigers tickets aren’t likely to forget.
Tigers pitcher Eddie Bonine (1.02 ERA) got the win, while Sergio Mitre (3.86 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Brad Thomas went 3.0 innings for the Tigers, allowed 3 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and no strikeouts. Also pitching for the Tigers was Joel Zumaya (2.25), Phil Coke (1.69), and Ryan Perry (3.38). The Yankees’s starter Sergio Mitre went 4.1 innings, allowed 5 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. David Robertson (10.61), Boone Logan (3.38), and Joba Chamberlain (2.45) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Bonine’s record goes to 3-0, while Mitre drops to 0-1. Jose Valverde earned the save for the Tigers, bringing his saves up to 9.
In addition to the 5 runs, the Tigers put up 8 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Tigers, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Brandon Inge had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Randy Winn could not get much going at the plate as he left 7 runners on base. The Yankees mustered 4 runs, 8 hits and one error.
