Rangers 7 – Yankees 2

The Texas Rangers did battle with the the New York Yankees yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Rangers victorious 7 to 2. It was a huge win that rooters with Rangers tickets aren’t likely to forget.

Rangers pitcher Jason Grilli (4.35 ERA) got the win, while A.J. Burnett (4.10 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Dustin Nippert went 3.2 innings for the Rangers, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with 7 walks and 3 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rangers was C.J. Wilson (2.95), and Frank Francisco (3.65). The Yankees’s starter A.J. Burnett went 6 innings, allowed 2 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with 3 walks and 12 strikeouts. Phil Coke (5.05), David Robertson (3.58), and Alfredo Aceves (4.06) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Grilli’s record goes to 2-3, while Burnett drops to 10-8.

Ian Kinsler provided much of the offense for the Rangers with an incredible 4 runs batted in. In addition to the 7 runs, the Rangers put up 6 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Rangers, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Alex Rodriguez could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Yankees mustered 2 runs, 6 hits and no errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Jim Reynolds, Chuck Meriwether, Laz Diaz and Randy Marsh. There were 47,209 Yankees ticket holders in attendance at New Yankee Stadium.

The win puts the Rangers at a record of 71-55, (4 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Yankees to 79-48, still leading their division.
