The New York Yankees vaporized the Texas Rangers yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Yankees picking up the W 9 to 2. Yankees pitcher Andy Pettitte (4.18 ERA) got the win, while Derek Holland (4.95 ERA) took the loss for the Rangers. Andy Pettitte went 7 solid innings for the Yankees, allowed 5 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 7 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Yankees was Brian Bruney (4.50), and Phil Coke (4.59). The Rangers’s starter Derek Holland went 6 innings, allowed 7 hits, 2 home runs and 6 earned runs with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Jason Jennings (4.13), and Doug Mathis (3.00) also pitched for the Rangers. With the win, Pettitte’s record goes to 11-6, while Holland is at 7-8.
In addition to the 9 runs, the Yankees scored 10 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Yankees, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Josh Hamilton had the most hits for the Rangers (3), followed by David Murphy (2). The Rangers managed 2 runs, 7 hits and one error.
Umpiring duties were performed by Randy Marsh, Jim Reynolds, Chuck Meriwether and Laz Diaz. There were 46,461 Yankees ticket holders in attendance at New Yankee Stadium.
The win puts the Yankees at a record of 79-47, still leading their division, while the loss brings the Rangers to 70-55, (5 games behind first place in the division). The Rangers will try to get a game back from the Yankees tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
