The Tampa Bay Rays vaporized the New York Yankees yesterday at Tropicana Field with the Rays earning the win 6 to 2. It was one heck of a game that devotees with Rays tickets will definitely cherish.
Rays pitcher Scott Kazmir (6.22 ERA) got the win, while CC Sabathia (3.83 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Scott Kazmir went 7 solid innings for the Rays, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and one earned run with one walk and 4 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rays was Grant Balfour (4.34), Randy Choate (2.65), and J.P. Howell (1.81). The Yankees’s starter CC Sabathia went 5.2 innings, allowed 9 hits, one home run and 5 earned runs with 2 walks and 6 strikeouts. Mark Melancon (4.50) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Kazmir’s record goes to 5-6, while Sabathia is at 10-7.
In addition to the 6 runs, the Rays scored 10 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Rays, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Yankees got 2 runs, 7 hits and 2 errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Hunter Wendelstedt, Doug Eddings, Dana DeMuth and Brian Knight. There were 32,304 Rays ticket holders in attendance at Tropicana Field.
The win puts the Rays at a record of 55-46, (6.5 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Yankees to 61-39, at the top of their division. The Yankees get a chance for revenge tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
