Rays thrashed by Yankees 11-4

The New York Yankees vaporized the Tampa Bay Rays yesterday at Tropicana Field with the Yankees picking up the W 11 to 4. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Rays tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 15 runs! Talk about excitement!

Yankees pitcher A.J. Burnett (3.53 ERA) got the win, while James Shields (3.87 ERA) took the loss for the Rays. A.J. Burnett went 7 innings for the Yankees, allowed 2 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Yankees was Jonathan Albaladejo (5.61). The Rays’s starter James Shields went 5.1 innings, allowed 9 hits, 2 home runs and 5 earned runs with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Joe Nelson (4.12), Grant Balfour (4.44), and Brian Shouse (5.87) also pitched for the Rays. With the win, Burnett’s record goes to 10-4, while Shields is at 6-7. David Robertson earned the save for the Yankees, bringing his saves up to 1.

In addition to the 11 runs, the Yankees scored 15 hits and committed one error. Derek Jeter led the Yankees in hitting with 3 hits, followed by Melky Cabrera’s 2 hits, and Nick Swisher with 2. Alex Rodriguez had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. The Rays managed 4 runs, 6 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Brian Knight, Hunter Wendelstedt, Doug Eddings and Dana DeMuth. There were 33442 Rays ticket holders in attendance at Tropicana Field.

The win puts the Yankees at a record of 61-38, at the top of their division, while the loss brings the Rays to 54-46, (7.5 games behind the division leader). The Rays will try to get a game back from the Yankees tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
