The Boston Red Sox barely got a “W” over the New York Yankees yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Red Sox winning 2 to 1. Wow! What a nail biter! This was a pitchers duel that Jon Lester and Phil Hughes will never forget! Fans with cheap Yankee tickets online saw two fantastic pitchers do battle. You don’t see baseball games as low-scoring as this, and when you do you better appreciate it!
Red Sox pitcher Jon Lester (2.94 ERA) got the win, while Phil Hughes (3.92 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Jon Lester went 6.1 solid innings for the Red Sox, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and no earned runs with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Daniel Bard (1.90). The Yankees’s starter Phil Hughes went 6 innings, allowed 6 hits, no home runs and 2 earned runs with one walk and 3 strikeouts. Kerry Wood (5.55), Boone Logan (3.00), and Joba Chamberlain (5.07) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Lester’s record goes to 12-7, while Hughes falls to 13-5. Jonathan Papelbon earned the save for the Red Sox, bringing his saves up to 28.
In addition to the 2 runs, the Red Sox managed 6 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Red Sox, as nobody managed more than 2 hits.
