Red Sox take close one from Yankees

The Boston Red Sox squeaked to victory over the New York Yankees yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Red Sox earning the win 7 to 6. It was one heck of a game that devotees with Red Sox tickets will definitely cherish.

Red Sox pitcher Daniel Bard (2.57 ERA) got the win, while Mariano Rivera (1.46 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Josh Beckett went 4.2 innings for the Red Sox, allowed 5 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with 3 walks and 6 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Red Sox was Manny Delcarmen (2.25), Ramon Ramirez (5.06), and Hideki Okajima (5.27). The Yankees’s starter CC Sabathia went 7.0 innings, allowed 4 hits, one home run and one earned run with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Joba Chamberlain (4.91) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Bard’s record goes to 1-1, while Rivera is at 0-1. Jonathan Papelbon earned the save for the Red Sox, bringing his saves up to 10.

In addition to the 7 runs, the Red Sox scored 10 hits and committed 2 errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Red Sox, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Victor Martinez had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Mark Teixeira could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Yankees got 6 runs, 8 hits and 2 errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Angel Campos, Jeff Nelson, Larry Vanover and Mark Carlson. There were 47,734 Yankees ticket holders in attendance at New Yankee Stadium.
