Red Sox thrashed by Yankees 13-6

The New York Yankees destroyed the Boston Red Sox yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Yankees securing the victory 13 to 6. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with cheap Yankee tickets online sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 19 runs! Talk about excitement!

Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain (3.73 ERA) got the win, while John Smoltz (8.33 ERA) took the loss for the Red Sox. Joba Chamberlain went 5 innings for the Yankees, allowed 6 hits, 2 home runs and 4 earned runs with 7 walks and 5 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Yankees was David Robertson (3.52), Phil Coke (4.80), Mark Melancon (3.18), and Anthony Claggett (33.75). The Red Sox’s starter John Smoltz went 3.1 innings, allowed 9 hits, 2 home runs and 8 earned runs with 4 walks and 3 strikeouts. Billy Traber (12.27), and Takashi Saito (3.23) also pitched for the Red Sox. With the win, Chamberlain’s record goes to 8-2, while Smoltz drops to 2-5.

In addition to the 13 runs, the Yankees put up 18 hits and committed no errors. Jorge Posada and Mark Teixeira tied for most hits for the Yankees with 3 hits, followed by Johnny Damon with 3 hits. Melky Cabrera had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. Dustin Pedroia had the most hits for the Red Sox (3), followed by Mike Lowell (2). David Ortiz could not get much going at the plate as he left 8 runners on base. The Red Sox got 6 runs, 8 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Derryl Cousins, Chad Fairchild, Jim Joyce and Bill Miller. There were 49,005 Yankees ticket holders in attendance at New Yankee Stadium.

The win puts the Yankees at a record of 66-42, still leading their division, while the loss brings the Red Sox to 62-45, (3.5 games behind first place in the division). The Red Sox will try to return the favor tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
