White Sox edge Yankees by 1

The Chicago White Sox got a tough win over the New York Yankees yesterday at Us Cellular Field with the White Sox picking up the W 3 to 2. It was one heck of a game that folks with White Sox tickets aren’t likely to forget.

White Sox pitcher Matt Thornton (2.95 ERA) got the win, while Phil Hughes (3.47 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Gavin Floyd went 7.2 solid innings for the White Sox, allowed 4 hits, no home runs and one earned run with one walk and 10 strikeouts. The Yankees’s starter Andy Pettitte went 6.1 innings, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and one earned run with no walks and 8 strikeouts. Phil Coke (3.77) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Thornton’s record goes to 5-2, while Hughes is at 4-3.

In addition to the 3 runs, the White Sox scored 8 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the White Sox, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Mark Teixeira could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Yankees managed 2 runs, 6 hits and 2 errors.

Umpiring duties were performed by Ted Barrett, Tim McClelland, Andy Fletcher and Greg Gibson. There were 31,305 White Sox ticket holders in attendance at Us Cellular Field.

The win puts the White Sox at a record of 52-51, (2.5 games behind the division leader), while the loss brings the Yankees to 62-40, at the top of their division. The Yankees will try to get a game back from the White Sox tomorrow. There are still plenty of tickets available so take a look.
