Yankees 10 – Angels 6

The New York Yankees did battle with the the Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Yankees victorious 10 to 6. You don’t often see such high scoring games, and anyone with Yankees tickets sure got their money’s worth. This high-scoring game saw the teams combine for a whopping 16 runs! Talk about excitement!

Yankees pitcher Javier Vazquez (4.68 ERA) got the win, while Joel Pineiro (4.18 ERA) took the loss for the Angels. Javier Vazquez went 5 innings for the Yankees, allowed 9 hits, 2 home runs and 5 earned runs with no walks and one strikeout. Also pitching for the Yankees was David Robertson (4.86), Boone Logan (3.92), Joba Chamberlain (5.80), and Mariano Rivera (0.98). The Angels’s starter Joel Pineiro went 6 innings, allowed 11 hits, one home run and 6 earned runs with 2 walks and 5 strikeouts. Scot Shields (5.68), and Rich Thompson (2.45) also pitched for the Angels. With the win, Vazquez’s record goes to 8-7, while Pineiro drops to 10-7.

In addition to the 10 runs, the Yankees put up 15 hits and committed no errors. Mark Teixeira and Derek Jeter tied for most hits for the Yankees with 3 hits, followed by Francisco Cervelli with 2 hits. Juan Miranda had a tough day at the plate, leaving 5 runners on base. Erick Aybar had the most hits for the Angels (3), followed by Bobby Wilson (2), and Kevin Frandsen (2). Howard Kendrick could not get much going at the plate as he left 5 runners on base. The Angels mustered 6 runs, 15 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Paul Emmel, Bill Hohn, Gary Darling and Bruce Dreckman. There were 47,521 Yankees ticket holders in attendance at New Yankee Stadium.
