The New York Yankees squeaked to victory over the Oakland Athletics yesterday at Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum with the Yankees triumphant 3 to 2. Also pitching for the Yankees was Phil Coke (4.68), and Phil Hughes (3.39). The Athletics’s starter Brett Anderson went 7 innings, allowed 6 hits, one home run and 3 earned runs with one walk and 6 strikeouts. Michael Wuertz (3.10), and Craig Breslow (3.98) also pitched for the Athletics. With the win, Aceves’s record goes to 8-1, while Anderson falls to 7-9. Mariano Rivera earned the save for the Yankees, bringing his saves up to 36.
In addition to the 3 runs, the Yankees managed 6 hits and committed one error. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Yankees, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. The Athletics didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. Ryan Sweeney could not get much going at the plate as he left 4 runners on base. The Athletics mustered 2 runs, 6 hits and no errors.
