Yankees Lose Close One To Blue Jays

The Toronto Blue Jays got a tough win over the New York Yankees yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Blue Jays picking up the W 5 to 4. Blue Jays pitcher Shawn Camp (2.93 ERA) got the win, while Sergio Mitre (7.04 ERA) took the loss for the Yankees. Marc Rzepczynski went 3.1 innings for the Blue Jays, allowed 7 hits, 3 home runs and 4 earned runs with one walk and no strikeouts. Also pitching for the Blue Jays was Brandon League (4.76), and Jesse Carlson (4.88). The Yankees’s starter Sergio Mitre went 5 innings, allowed 6 hits, 2 home runs and 3 earned runs with one walk and 6 strikeouts. Alfredo Aceves (3.14) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Camp’s record goes to 1-5, while Mitre is at 1-1. Jason Frasor earned the save for the Blue Jays, bringing his saves up to 5.

In addition to the 5 runs, the Blue Jays scored 8 hits and committed 2 errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Blue Jays, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Derek Jeter had the most hits for the Yankees (3), followed by Robinson Cano (2). The Yankees managed 4 runs, 11 hits and one error.

Umpiring duties were performed by Paul Schrieber, Paul Nauert, Joe West and Ed Rapuano. There were 46,376 Yankees ticket holders in attendance at New Yankee Stadium.

The win puts the Blue Jays at a record of 54-57, (14.5 games behind first place in the division), while the loss brings the Yankees to 69-43, still leading their division.
