The Texas Rangers got a tough win over the New York Yankees yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Rangers victorious 10 to 9. Kevin Millwood went 5.2 innings for the Rangers, allowed 7 hits, 2 home runs and 5 earned runs with 5 walks and 2 strikeouts. Also pitching for the Rangers was Neftali Feliz (0.55), Darren O’Day (1.74), Jason Grilli (4.62), and Frank Francisco (3.75). The Yankees’s starter Joba Chamberlain went 4 innings, allowed 9 hits, no home runs and 7 earned runs with 3 walks and 5 strikeouts. Chad Gaudin (5.01), and Damaso Marte (11.05) also pitched for the Yankees. With the win, Millwood’s record goes to 10-8, while Chamberlain drops to 8-4.
In addition to the 10 runs, the Rangers put up 16 hits and committed no errors. Josh Hamilton led the Rangers in hitting with 4 hits, followed by Elvis Andrus’s 3 hits, and Chris Davis with 2. Ivan Rodriguez had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Yankees didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Yankees mustered 9 runs, 12 hits and no errors.
Umpiring duties were performed by Laz Diaz, Bob Davidson, Mike Muchlinski and Chuck Meriwether. There were 46,511 Yankees ticket holders in attendance at New Yankee Stadium.
