The New York Yankees squeaked to victory over the Seattle Mariners yesterday at New Yankee Stadium with the Yankees earning the win 4 to 2. It was one heck of a game that devotees with Yankees tickets will definitely cherish.
Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia (3.33 ERA) got the win, while David Aardsma (5.33 ERA) took the loss for the Mariners. CC Sabathia went 8 solid innings for the Yankees, allowed 5 hits, no home runs and one earned run with 2 walks and 4 strikeouts. The Mariners’s starter Ryan Rowland-Smith went 6 innings, allowed 5 hits, one home run and 2 earned runs with 3 walks and 2 strikeouts. Brian Sweeney (0.00) also pitched for the Mariners. With the win, Sabathia’s record goes to 10-3, while Aardsma is at 0-5. Mariano Rivera earned the save for the Yankees, bringing his saves up to 18.
In addition to the 4 runs, the Yankees scored 7 hits and committed no errors. It wasn’t a huge day for anyone at the plate for the Yankees, as nobody managed more than 2 hits. Curtis Granderson had a tough day at the plate, leaving 4 runners on base. The Mariners didn’t have anyone with a big night with not one batter getting more than 2 hits. The Mariners got 2 runs, 5 hits and no errors.
